Life Energy Chiropractic - Winter Edition June to August 2017

Earlier this year, Dr Clive Farrelly, Chiropractor and Iyengar yoga teacher taught the fundamentals of rehabilitation through yoga asanas (postures) in Sydney, Los Angeles, Prague and Seoul.

Dr Clive and his Prague colleague Martina Jezkova, a physiotherapist at the Prague City Hospital, have developed a unique method of teaching rehabilitation through yoga asanas.

The course introduces the basic principles of physiological movement patterns through structural integration of the neuromuscular system both in static and dynamic forms. Individual muscle imbalances are shown and corrected by identifying important muscular synergies explored in open and closed kinetic chains.  The benefit of this is that this improves any dysfunctional movement patterns that may have been established earlier on in developmental life. It corrects faulty techniques often seen in sports which expose injuries that can often be avoided and develops coordination and tone in those who have decreased body awareness through lack of daily activity or live a sedentary lifestyle.

The courses were taught over 2 days and more extensively on the 4-day retreat in Prague. They have become extremely popular over the past 6 years and continue to expand into new countries that have a keen interest in studying the intricacies of human movement.  Dr Clive teaches locally or nationally at any sporting arena, studio, school and hospital that aims to improve the following;

  • Maximizing athletic performance
  • Improving stability and mobilty post trauma
  • Increasing children’s coordination and spatial awareness
  • Re-establishing control and confidence over balance and gait in the elderly population, decreasing the risk of unnecessary falls

 Low Back Strength and Flexibility Exercises to Do At Home or Work

Take a look at the exercises and stretches for the low back that can easily be done in the comfort of your home. Consistency is often the thing that is missing and will make the difference between having low back discomfort once versus over and over again.

Before doing any home exercise routine please consider seeing your chiropractor for a thorough evaluation of your spine and its overall function so that the treatment can be specified to your needs. Not all exercises may be helpful with all back problems and understanding the cause of dysfunction is key to resolving the issue.
