Yoga means 'union' or 'connection,' it is a complementary system of medicine, particulary in preventative care. Anyone can practice yoga irrespective of age, health concerns or religion. BKS Iyengar, known as the world’s most respected and leading exponent on yoga therapy to date, has made an invaluable contribution to the understanding and therapeutic values of yoga. BKS Iyengar defines yoga as  "A disciplinary art which develops the faculties of the body, mind, breath and intellect."

Iyengar Yoga has systemised over 200 yoga postures (asanas), and breathing techniques (pranayama), that focus on the co-ordinated activity of agonists and antagonists relationship of muscles to maintain postural stability and neuromuscular control. It helps correct the dysfunctional patterns that we have set up through life, enhancing structural integrity of each system of the body through the applications of ideal alignment and breath awareness.
